The Road to Laswitan

Some journeys are not just about reaching a destination. They are about the road you take, the challenges you face, and the moments that make every mile worth it.
On June 12, 2025, I set out from Surigao City on a ride toward Laswitan Tide Pool in Cortes, Surigao del Sur. With around 161 kilometers between the starting point and the destination, it was a journey that would take me beyond familiar roads. This time, I was riding with friends, sharing the road and the experience with people who were part of the adventure.
As we traveled farther, the road became more challenging. Passing through mining areas meant dealing with dust, slippery surfaces, and large trucks moving along the same routes. It was a reminder that motorcycle travel demands more than the desire to explore. It requires attention, patience, and respect for the road.
Then came a moment that could have changed the entire ride.
A toktok suddenly braked and turned right in front of me. I nearly crashed into the gutter. For a brief moment, the situation could have ended badly, but thankfully, nothing serious happened.
Experiences like that remind me how quickly things can change when riding a motorcycle. No matter how beautiful the destination may be, getting there safely matters most. The road does not always give you time to prepare, and every moment calls for awareness.
Still, the journey continued.
After dealing with the difficult roads and overcoming the challenges along the way, we eventually reached Laswitan Tide Pool. We explored the place, taking in a destination that had made the ride worthwhile.
There is something special about reaching a place after a demanding journey. The destination becomes more than a point on a map. It becomes part of a story one that includes the roads you traveled, the difficulties you faced, and the people who shared the experience with you.
Laswitan became another chapter in my motorcycle journey. It reminded me that adventure is not always smooth, and that every ride comes with its own uncertainties. But it also reminded me why I keep going: there are still places to discover and experiences waiting beyond the roads I already know.
Every journey leaves something behind a memory, a lesson, or a reason to ride again.
And for me, this journey was another step forward.
