CHAPTER 04
Finding the Road
Somewhere along the way, the road became
more than just a way to get somewhere.
Motorcycles became part of my life when I was a teenager with a love for adventure. I remember seeing a group of people parked together with their motorcycles. There was something about it that caught my attention the bikes, the freedom, and the feeling that each one had a story waiting to be told. I thought to myself, “It would be nice to have one someday.”
Not long after, my father had an old motorcycle, a Honda Wave 100. I asked if I could have it, but at first, he hesitated. He knew the dangers that came with riding a motorcycle and worried about letting me have one. Eventually, he trusted me enough to give me the bike.
It was small, but it packed a punch. That old Honda Wave became my first real taste of freedom. We traveled together, explored different places, and created memories that I still carry with me today. It taught me that adventure doesn't always begin with having the best or newest things. Sometimes, it begins with simply having the courage to go.
Eventually, my parents gave me a new motorcycle—a Yamaha Sniper 150. I named her **Miya** because, in Cebuano, “miya” means cat. I had a cat before that had a similar face to the front of the Sniper, so the name felt natural and special.
Since then, Miya has become more than just a motorcycle. She is my escape, my freedom, and my companion on the road. Together, we have traveled across the Philippines, discovering places, meeting people, and experiencing moments I never expected.
For me, the journey is not always about reaching a destination. Sometimes, it is simply about getting on the bike, starting the engine, and seeing where the road takes us one mile at a time.
